Freedom Childcare’s tips for a safe and fun Halloween

Halloween tips

It’s an exciting time for all children this month, and we know how much ours love their costumes, enjoying their midterm and tucking into as many sugary treats as possible!

At Freedom Care Group our main objective is your children’s happiness and well-being, with that in mind, we thought it could be helpful to share some tips that can help keep them safe this Halloween. In our experience, these are valuable for children trick or treating alone or with supervision!

Know where your kids are while Trick-or-Treating or out with friends

This can be difficult depending on their age, but try openly communicating so you’ll know where they are and who they are with. Rely on technology, check in with your older children via texts, and make sure they know when you expect them home.

Warm and Safe Costumes

Plan by packing jackets or jumpers for when your kid (or you) inevitably gets the shivers. Most places in the UK will be very cold this time of year, layers under their costumes will help combat the cold.

Teach your children to never enter a home while trick or treating

We know this sounds like common sense, but a well-mannered child might not understand the risk involved or that it’s ok for you to say no to an adult.

Check your child’s sweets

As long as Halloween has been celebrated, parents have insisted on checking their kids’ bags – and for good reason! Any open or unsealed wrapper is a risk. Be sure to thoroughly check your child’s sweets when they get on from Trick-or-Treating. And don’t forget to sneak some of your favourite treats for yourself!

Make sure your child knows how to call for help

If your child finds themselves in a dangerous situation, despite all your preparation, they must know how to call for help – and how to do it fast. You can do this by teaching your child how to:

  • Dial 999 and how to talk to the operator
  • Identify safe adults (police, family, friends) to ask for help.

We hope everyone has a great Halloween and stays safe!
